The Arctic University of Norway offers a fully funded PhD scholarship in Optical Tomography, a rapidly advancing field in medical diagnostics, for passionate researchers with innovation skills at the Department of Physics and Technology within the Ultrasound, Microwaves and Optics research group (UMO). The duration of the position is for 4 years, where 75 % of the position is linked to the Research Council of Norway (RCN) research project 5D-QUIP (development of a quantitative phase microscopy and tomography system), and 25% of the position is linked to teaching and related duties within the department.
Getting the training necessary for doctoral-level research is the position’s goal. A PhD program admission is a requirement for employment, and the program duration begins when the position is filled. The workplace is located in Tromsø at UiT. After obtaining the offer, you must be able to begin work in the role as soon as possible.

Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent in physics
- Background in optics/optical engineering/computational optics and an interest in bio-imaging.
- Experience in optical tomographic reconstruction and inverse scattering analysis algorithms.
- Background in image analysis, and optics simulations.
- Experience in optical microscopy and tomography.
- Proficiency in the English language. English proficiency must be documented. Nordic applicants can document their English capabilities by attaching their high school diploma.
