Project Description
Get your PhD in Germany 100% paid for with a new fully funded scholarship at the University of Bayreuth. This project aims to develop devices for signal transduction using photons instead of electrons, exploiting optical signal parallelism.
The project, part of an interdisciplinary International German-Australian Research Training Group, combines expertise from various fields, including photochromic molecules, semiconductor quantum dots, and nanofabrication techniques, to develop such devices.
Your profile
- Interested candidates (m/f/d) need to hold an M.Sc. or equivalent at the intended time of starting the PhD.
- Background in laser spectroscopy to perform optical experiments on nanostructured arrays as part of the program optical logic gates.
- Ability to work self-motivated, team-oriented yet independent in an interdisciplinary and international research setting
- Willingness to spend 6-12 months at the partner university in Melbourne or Monash
- Good written and oral communication skills, with a good command of English and a willingness to acquire a basic level of German
- Previous research experience in a topic related to OPTEXC, e.g. in the form of a Master’s research thesis.
Our offer
We offer an opportunity to be part of an interdisciplinary and international consortium with mutual research visits. We support you by giving an organized preparation program that incorporates logical and self-improvement open doors, and a tutoring program. You will want to work intimately with driving specialists in the field, participate in worldwide gatherings, and partake in universal driving exploration.
The successful candidate (m/f/d) will work at the Spectroscopy of Soft Matter group of Prof. Dr. Jürgen Köhler at the University of Bayreuth, and will spend one year in Australia during his/her PhD, studying nanofabrication of the arrays with collaborator Prof. Paul Mulvaney at the University of Melbourne.
