The Department of Chemistry at Umeå University is giving a fully funded opportunity in Sweden for a PhD student to study the human microbiome and its impact on health.
Project Focus:
- Discover the secrets of protein glycosylation in a vital class of gut microbes.
- Apply state-of-the-art methods such as NMR, synthetic biology, and mass Spectrometry to obtain a better understanding of this protein alteration.
- Identify the enzymatic pathways responsible for this process.

Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- Strong foundation in chemistry, biochemistry, and basic lab experience.
- Familiarity with NMR and mass Spectrometry is a plus point.
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
Bonus points for:
- Hands-on experience with NMR, mass Spectrometry, and/or biomolecular techniques.
- Programming skills (R or Python).
- A thirst for independent research, initiative, and teamwork spirit.
- Passion for science communication.
About the Position:
- This four-year PhD program will lead to a doctoral degree.
- Your primary focus will be research, with participation in relevant courses encouraged.
- Teaching and departmental work may be included (up to 20%).
