Fully Funded PhD in Microbial Ecology at University of Bergen, Norway

The University of Bergen (UiB) in Norway is providing a PhD Research Fellowship in Microbial Ecology to join their team and investigate the complex world of microbial communities. The fellowship is for three years, with the option of a fourth year, which involves 25% mandatory work based on the candidate’s qualifications and departmental teaching needs. The fourth year may be decreased if the candidate has already worked as a research fellow or assistant. As a PhD Research Fellow, you must complete an approved academic programme for a PhD degree within three years. The deadline for applying for admission is two months after commencing your position or completing the research project leading to a PhD degree.

Summary of the Opportunity:

  • Project Destination: University of Bergen (UiB)
  • Country name: Bergen, Norway
  • Project Title: Full-time PhD Research Fellow in Microbial Ecology (Fixed Term)
  • Last date to apply: June 1st, 2024
  • Field of Research: Microbial Ecology

Overview of Project:

As a PhD Research Fellow, you will be at the leading edge of investigating many aspects of microbial ecology and evolution. Your study will be focused on:

  • The dynamic interplay between viruses and their microbial hosts
  • How these communities co-evolve under different environmental conditions
  • How microbial communities respond to environmental changes

The PhD project aims to explore microbial ecology and evolution through laboratory experiments and computer simulations. The focus will be on virus-host interaction dynamics, co-evolution under different conditions, and natural microbial communities. The research will also examine life strategy trade-offs in structuring microbial communities. The candidate will design and execute a research plan with support from supervisors and technical staff.
