Explore a fully funded PhD opportunity in England focused on understanding the role of corrosion products. Join us in advancing research and innovation.
The corrosion of carbon steel due to carbon dioxide (CO2) is a major cause of degradation in energy systems and carbon capture technologies. Nevertheless, knowledge regarding the localized corrosion of carbon steel structures, like pipelines, is still minimal.
The intention of this doctoral project done together with QEERI, HBKU, and Shell Qatar is to elucidate this theory and then find methods that can be used chemically to stop or diminish localized corrosion. The scholar will be part of the Corrosion and Mineral Scaling Research Team at the University of Leeds where he/she will apply special corrosion testing chambers as well as electrochemical analyses.
How to apply
Applications for a PhD Mechanical Engineering research degree focusing on the role of corrosion products in localized corrosion of large-scale energy and carbon abatement system infrastructures are being accepted by the University.
The Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) Studentship is funding the degree. If English is not your first language you need to satisfy the minimum requirements set by the university. People from different backgrounds such as Black, Asian, minority ethnic groups, disabled individuals as well as LGBT+ individuals are welcomed by the university and applicants are selected depending on merit and ability.
Applications are accepted on a rolling foundation, whilst potential enrolls are endorsed to get in touch with their supervisors for unceremonious talks.
The process of application and selection may finish earlier; therefore, all the necessary documents must be submitted by May 31st, 2024.
- Full Transcripts of all degree study or if in the final year of study, full transcripts to date
- Personal Statement outlining your interest in the project
- CV
Entry requirements
- Applicants to research degree programs should normally have at least a first-class or an upper-second-class British bachelor’s Honors degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate discipline.
- The criteria for entry for some research degrees may be higher, for example, several faculties, also require a master’s degree.
- Applicants are advised to check with the relevant School before making an application. Applicants who are uncertain about the requirements for a particular research degree are advised to contact the School or Graduate School before making an application.
English language: The minimum English language entry requirement for research postgraduate research study is an IELTS of 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in each component (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) or equivalent. The test must be dated within two years of the start date of the course in order to be valid.
