The Department of Economics offers an enhanced stipend and tuition fees to successful candidates applying for postgraduate scholarships. The goal is to establish the relationship between gut/flora and stool/urine outputs post stoma-formation; microbiota role in ostomy complications and newer strategies for improvement of adhesives such that they prevent skin lesions resulting from microbial activity on the skin.
Queens University Belfast will be the main place for the interdisciplinary study. They will also do their projects in the R&D laboratory at Eakin. One needs to have a first class or an upper second class honours degree in pertinent areas: pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry, biological/biomedical sciences, chemistry, or closely related subjects.

The candidate should have lived in the UK or the Islands for an extended term covering three years previous to the start of first educational year for the program, which is normally 1 October (or would have done so if he, she, or either of his parents had not been temporarily employed outside the UK or EU, ).
For Non-EU nationals – the main purpose of residence in the UK must NOT have
been to receive full time education during any part of that three-year period.
Eligible candidates may be granted partnership with students covering tuition and living expenses if they are permanent residents of the United Kingdom with three-year prior residence requirements before they embark on the program.
