Stockholm University’s Biodiversity invites applications for a fully-funded four-year PhD position in Data-Driven Evolution and Biodiversity, focusing on plant extinction. Operating for a period of four years, the position is full time – 100% FTE – with salary paid by SEK monthly according to local agreements. It is a part of Research School SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) whose purpose is to educate the forthcoming data-driven life scientists. Job Description
The chosen candidate for the PhD position will be responsible for formulating novel quantitative techniques used to appraise plant loss with the help of digital records from herbariums together with characteristics of plant species, their locations and threats impacting them. At the same time, it includes learning about combined approaches in biodiversity analyses that involve issues like processing Red List assessments probabilistically; applying machine learning and computational methods. The supervisor will be an Associate Professor called Aelys Humphreys who will be assisted by other collaborators internationally.
Eligibility
- Completed a second-cycle degree or equivalent.
- At least 240 higher education credits, with 60 credits in the second cycle.
- At least 60 credits in the second cycle in Plant Systematics, Ecology, or Evolution, including a 15-credit course and a 30-credit project.
- Strong interest in and experience with quantitative methods and computational approaches in Ecology and Conservation Science.
- Proficiency in scripting or programming languages (e.g., R or Python).
