Fully Funded PhD in Disease Evolutionary Ecology at IGB – Germany

For the project “PatHogens of Algae for Biocontrol and Biosecurity (PHABB),” the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) in Berlin is offering fully funded PhD and accepting applications for PhD studies beginning in the summer of 2024 and lasting 36 months.

With an emphasis on disease control in seaweeds and toxic algal blooms, the project aims to research the virulence, host specificity, and dynamics of microbial communities targeted by diseases that affect algae.

Your profile

  • Master’s Degree in Biology or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in experimental work
  • Experience with molecular/genomic techniques would be advantageous
  • Strong statistical or bioinformatic skills
  • Collaborative team player
  • Effective communication skills in English, including scientific writing

Eligibility

To be eligible for a PhD position, applicants must meet the trans-national mobility criterion, not have resided in Germany for more than 12 months before recruitment, and be a doctoral candidate at the recruitment date, with successfully defending doctoral thesis holders not considered.
