Université Toulouse III in France is offering a fully funded PhD program in Supramolecular Chemistry, providing an exceptional opportunity for highly motivated students to delve into the fascinating world of manipulating molecules to create new materials and functionalities. This prestigious scholarship will cover your tuition fees and provide a stipend for living expenses, allowing you to focus entirely on your research endeavors.
Objectives and Research Plan
In the framework of this project, we aim to combine these two approaches by preparing unprecedented phosphine-based, anionic supramalleolar cages. For the design of these cages, we have implemented a rational approach combining mobilizations and cavity size calculations. According to our working hypothesis, the Cationic gold complex will be generated inside these cages. This encapsulation will be driven by the supported nature of the phosphine (the coordinating phosphine is linked to the cage by covalent bonds) and additional electrostatic interaction (between the anionic cage and the Cationic gold complex). The Cationic character ensures higher reactivity,
while the confined environment around the metal will offer the possibility to alter the selectivity of reactions. As a result, this reactive, confined gold complex is expected to have a different reactivity compared to its “classical”, non-confined analogs. To demonstrate this, we are going to take advantage of these effects in transformations (oxidative addition and macro-cyclization of 1,syngeneses) that have never been studied under confinement and where the previously mentioned effects would lead to a markedly different reactivity compared to non-confined gold chemistry.
