Tampere University’s Faculty of Social Sciences is inviting applications for eight (8) posts of Doctoral Researcher. Employment can last from six months to four years. The chosen doctoral researchers should start working between 02 January and 02 June 2025.

The positions can be/are located in the following doctoral programs:

  • International Doctoral Programme in Epidemiology and Public Health (IPPE)
  • Doctoral Programme in Medicine
  • Doctoral Programme in Psychology and Logopaedics
  • Doctoral Programme in Health Sciences
  • Doctoral Programme in Social Sciences

Job Description

The applicants selected for the positions will pursue a PhD in one of the doctoral programs at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Tampere University. The anticipated duration of full-time studies is four years. Fixed-term employment contracts can be drawn up for a maximum of six months to four years; the length of the contract depends on the doctoral researcher’s current stage of studies and the expected graduation date.

This position is specifically aimed at those applicants who have not previously received funding for a doctoral dissertation for four years or more.

The terms of dissertation work are defined in the personal study and supervision plan of the doctoral researcher. Annual progress reports are required from them. The personal study and supervision plan contains an elaborate annual work schedule.

Apart from the dissertation work, doctoral researchers are expected to teach or do other studies-related work. These duties cannot account for more than five percent of their total working hours.

Requirements

Candidates should have a completed higher university degree and be already registered as a doctoral student in one of the doctoral programs of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Tampere University.

Selection is based on the following criteria:

  • Scientific quality and innovativeness of the research plan
  • Feasibility of the proposed research
  • Merits of the applicant
  • Research environment and/or support of the research group
  • Motivation letter
