1- Fully Funded PhD Position in the SFF Centre for Embryology and Healthy development (CRESCO)
A 3-year Ph. D. job is open at the Centre for Embryology and Healthy Development (CRESCO; a newly established Norwegian Centre of Excellence). The candidate will join the Stem Cells, Ageing and Cancer group, which is headed by Centre Deputy Director and Associate Professor Lorena Arranz at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo. Project: Imaging Ageing Endothelium at the Nanoscale Position in the EU Horizon Europe MSCA Program “Doctoral Networks” (DN) ImAge-D. 2- Fully Funded PhD Position in Information Systems for Climate Health
The position is devoted to researching climate health data and its role in supporting decisions for various user groups. Within this broad topic, data integration, data storing and processing, and data visualization will be important. Spatial data models are natural starting points, and research on Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is expected to be central. Empirically, the research will be based on concrete activities of the HISP Centre, University of Oslo, and processes to adapt the open-source software DHIS2 to support climate health information needs globally.

The department is interested in candidates who will enhance the development of human geography as a discipline/repos with us. The fellows will be expected to carry out independent research (under supervision), as per the project proposal submitted. 4- Fully Funded PhD Position in Formal Methods and Software Engineering for Digital Twins
Are you interested in doing a PhD in formal methods and software engineering, developing exciting software solutions in a unique, interdisciplinary research environment? In this project, we will work on digital twins, which are technologies that can support the development and exploration of hypothetical experiments (so-called “what-if” scenarios). The project aims to develop digital twin solutions that work in practice and that allow us to argue for correctness. The design of the digital twin should allow us to express the correctness of its underlying architecture but also to justify specific configurations for different hypothetical exper-iments.

5- Fully Funded PhD Position in Computational Continuum Mechanics
PhD position in computational continuum mechanics: Modelling of fluid transport and mixing in fractured rock masses But this work is to try to understand how fluids flow through and react in networks that change shape by plugging and unplugging as a result of the precipitation or organic matter. This dynamic decay process is common to many different processes occurring in veins or branches (e.g., transporting nutrients between regions of a single living entity) as well as to flow of chemical solutions through porous or fractured landscapes in the deep subsurface (25). Specific examples include the filling of vein networks over geologic time scales, biomineral formation, contaminant remediation and cultural heritage preservation, as well as reducing heat flow in geothermal wells and mineral trapping of CO2 in the subsurface.

While some optimistic viewpoints suggest that AI may catalyze an equalizer of political participation, alternative perspectives raise concerns about the potential adverse impacts of AI, which could pose threats to democratic engagement and its overall functionality. The doctoral candidate will engage in research projects centered around political psychology, investigating the psychological effects of AI, and in particularly generative AI such as large language models (e.g., Gemini, Grok, ChatGPT, CoPilot, MyAI) or image models (e.g., DALLE, Midjourney), has on political attitudes, trust in democratic institutions, and the extent of civic engagement.

The Faculty of Law at the University of Oslo is the largest legal academic research community in Norway. The objective of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. The candidate must be qualified for admission to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Law. The fellowship period is preferably for 4 years, with 25 % compulsory teaching duties. This presupposes that the fellow is able to conduct teaching in subjects where there is a need for more teaching resources at the Faculty. The main aim of the project is to discuss how humans effectively deal with environmental change, as represented in and through literature, from the past and today, in the North and globally. The current environmental crisis has made us aware of the pressing need for new insight, about the deeper emotive structures of humanity and the cognitive mechanisms that condition our relationship to the environment. The two main research questions of the project are:
(1) How does literature represent and describe Affective responses to environmental change?
(2) What effect does literature have on our emotions and thoughts, and how can it contribute to sustainability in times of environmental transformations? By discussing these research questions, the project will harvest the yet unexploited potential of powerful, large-scale narratives from the past and today, which have the potential to activate new ways of thinking about and relating to our environment.

Many complex structures and processes of life are at least partly the result of spontaneous self-assembly processes. In the AssemblingLife project, a central aim is, within the framework of the philosophy of science, to develop new ideas of life and life science explanation by bringing in the increasing knowledge and awareness of self-assembly processes from various scientific fields (for example nanoscience, molecular biology, and soft material science). Important objectives are to provide a comprehensive analysis of the concept and idea of self-assembly across fields and scales and to decipher differences, similarities, and connections between self-assembly and ideas of self-organization of living systems. The project aims to challenge (but also to build on) existing accounts of explanation in the philosophy of biology and life sciences, such as current accounts of genetic causation as well as mechanist and interventionist ideas of explanation.
